As part of Glanbia’s partnership with a US based oatmeal brand they required packaging designed for their range of premium oatmeal. This range will be positioned at the premium end of the oatmeal export market. This particular packaging was required for in-house events as the range is not yet going to market. Before AKGraphics designed the labels for this packaging the oatmeal was presented in plain black bags. The label design needed to reflect the Irish heritage and superior quality of the product. AKGraphics designed a custom font which became the main focus of the label. Also important in this design project was the actual shape of the label. A custom shape was created by AKGraphics. This shaped label added to the traditional look which was required. To add a touch of luxury to the packaging design we used gold foil to highlight various elements. These labels were printed digitally which means that there was no need to print a large number of labels. As the range grew, to include gluten-free oats, AKGraphics selected new colours that would complement the previously designed labels. There was also a change in the bags from black to a brown paper effect. This new packaging material, which has an old-world, eco-friendly look, suited the traditional style of the labels much better. Although this packaging is not yet used in the marketplace the labels have been designed for this purpose. If the labels go into high volume printing for retail packaging it will be very cost effective due to clever design by AKGraphics. We ensured that the label design can be adapted for high volume printing without changing the look. A full suite of labels were designed for this range including; “Gluten Free Jumbo Flaked Oatmeal”, “Gluten Free Quick Flaked Oatmeal”, “Flaked Oatmeal”, “Steel Cut Oatmeal” and “Quick & Easy Oatmeal”.
